Preparing Process Maps with Value Stream Logic/Process Analysis
Although many companies that apply ISO standards have their Process Maps already drawn, it is frequently seen that, these maps generally wait on the dusty shelves. Process maps must be prepared and drawn by the specialists that work in the processes, and during mutual work platforms and workshops. Added value analysis, standby times, delays, problems, etc. must be evaluated for each step of the processes, and the map that will be based on VALUE must be drawn by using the collected data and necessary measurements.
It must be possible to identify each of the following, which are determined in the process maps: the way to measure the critical process parameters, the definition of measurement standards, the frequency of reporting and the critical execution zones. In many institutions, it is seen that, the workers do not have enough knowledge about the way to measure some extremely important process metrics, and it is also seen that the same measurement parameter may be measured differently by various groups.
Process maps that are drawn with the VALUE logic provide a very important analysis opportunity that can be used in the improvement studies of the processes. The difference between the existing maps and the maps that reflect the conditions in the future can be leveled by the process improvement projects. The real aim is the simplification and perfection of the processes, so the energy must be focused on the result, rather than the names and/or types of the tools (Lean, Lean Six Sigma, Kaizen, 5S, Set Up Reduction, CRM…).
